7 tips on how to get over a breakup

Most of us know the feeling. At first, everything is beautiful and rosy; we’re in love and floating on air. But then, things get messy, and the love is gone. Whether you end the relationship yourself for some reason or you’re the one who gets "dumped," you have to deal with the aftermath in both cases. Something is gone, it has ended (so that something else can begin), and we need to recover and move on.

What can help you during this period?

1. Let your emotions out. Have a good cry, release those negative feelings, or wash them away with a mate at the bar if you need to. Just perform some kind of ritual to close the chapter on the past relationship.

2. Learn from it. They say that failure doesn't exist—only feedback. So, take a lesson from your past relationship. What was the reason for the breakup? What actually went wrong, and what do you want to be different next time? Conversely, is there something positive you can take away? Every experience enriches and changes us; be grateful for what this relationship gave you.

3. No self-pity. Don't regret that the relationship didn't work out, because the universe has something better in store for you. Look forward to what’s coming next.

4. Focus on yourself. Pamper yourself, praise yourself, do things that make you happy, and relax. You are the most important person in your life. "Self-love" should be a core part of your vocabulary.

5. Stay active. Do sports, travel, cook, bake, walk, take photos... your free time is yours alone. Enjoy this luxury! But choose carefully who you spend that time with. Watch out for negative friends who might drag you down.

6. Try new things. Step out of your comfort zone and break away from your old routines. Don't settle for the "comfortable and familiar"—be brave! You’ll start to feel that things are moving and that you are truly alive!

7. Be kind to yourself. Don't carry feelings of guilt or failure because the relationship ended. It happened, and now it’s time for you to walk forward.
