Dating in Brno

For some, dating is a simple matter, and new contacts seem to arrive almost effortlessly. However, if you don't belong to this "special breed" of people, you might find yourself wondering: How on earth do they do it?

Since I’m one of those people who "just meet people", I’ll try to give you my perspective and share my secret tips for dating in Brno. Some are well-known, others less so, but I hope you find them all useful.

The most important thing is a positive attitude :-). If you tell yourself that you definitely won’t meet anyone and there’s no point trying, that may well become a self-fulfilling prophecy. But if you tell yourself that you will meet someone—whether it’s a future friend, a partner for your hobbies, or the "champion of your heart"—that positive mindset and openness to possibilities will immediately boost your chances.

You might be thinking: I have the desire to meet someone, but where and how?

It’s best to head for waters that are familiar to you—whether through work, hobbies, or shared values. In short, go where you feel like a fish in water. In these groups, it’s much easier to find common ground. In my opinion, people are at their most attractive when they are truly passionate about something. It sounds like a cliché, but life really is short—so why not spend it doing what you enjoy and developing your strengths? Plus, if you work on something you love, you’re highly likely to bump into people with the same passion, whether it’s a fishing club, various sports, hackathons, or a love of art. Did you know that people who are relaxed and being themselves are more attractive? When you’re doing something that interests and delights you, it’s much easier to get into that frame of mind.

Below are a few tips for meeting people in Brno. For more detailed searches, "Uncle Google" or Facebook (where most individual events are promoted) will serve you well.

Where to meet people?
If you love cooking, Brno is full of cookery schools for "amateurs". You can also meet fellow foodies at picnics; for example, "Picnic Brno" organises a monthly event in the park. For lovers of fine wine, there are tastings organised by various restaurants or wine bars, and even trips to visit winemakers in South Moravia.

If you enjoy languages, there are not only traditional language courses but also language schools that aim to get students excited about the culture through traditional cooking, picnics, or outings to local pubs. There is also the Stammtisch (a pub gathering for German speakers) or the English Meeting in Brno. Both combine learning and practice with meeting new people in one event—and they’re free; it’ll only cost you your effort and whatever you choose to drink.

For dance lovers, dance halls are now well-established in Brno. Don’t have a partner to go with? Don't worry about it! Just go and have fun; the rhythm of salsa or tango will carry you along—after all, that’s why you’re there ;-) Look out for Salsa under Petrov, where salsa rhythms drift across the terraces of Denis Gardens on warm summer nights, or dancing at Café Savoy, which offers different dance styles almost every weekday. The dance hall at Stolárna studio specifically encourages individuals not to be shy and to come and shake off their nerves to the beat.

If your interests don't fall into any of the above, try looking at Naučmese.cz. You’ll find a huge range of courses, from public speaking and "how to brush your teeth" :-) to acrobatics or the aforementioned cooking classes. The choice is truly broad.

Impact Hub Brno also hosts various events. For instance, at the Hub Mashup, start-up projects from both new and experienced entrepreneurs are presented. The focus is different every time, and meeting people is made easier by a "networking game" designed to help you connect with other participants.

However, many people struggle with dating due to the communication aspect. For these individuals, there is Toastmasters—an organisation that helps you develop your communication skills, regardless of your current level. The first few sessions are usually free, so why not give it a go? You’ve got nothing to lose.

How to go about it?
